Episode One
When I finished watching the premiere, I kept thinking to myself, "My god, talk about shades of LFN!!!"
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but still pretty bad. The music was ok(although they really piled it on), but all in all, it wasn't original and any potential this show has is only because it's a ripoff of such a successful one. I mean, that's why I was sucked into the whole LFN-deal, because it was so raw and original.
What also bothered me a bit was how, straight off, Sydney was spotlighted. I understand that this is all about her, but all the other characters weren't given depth or purpose in how they related to her(except maybe her father) to give some balance to the cast. If the show is going to depend on her character, then I don't see it making a second season anytime soon. The premiere was poorly executed and lacked in all areas as far as originality goes, but it's obviousley sucked in a number of fans and ratings. We'll see.

LFN
Basically, the premises and style of the LFN storyline was taken except they've done it in a very distasteful and cheap way. All very pale comparisons in terms of the dark and subtle extremity to LFN's case, but I suppose people go for that kind of thing. Some small examples:
Example 1: Sydney's father works in the same organization(s) and *cough* that she ends up getting recruited into.
Example 2: Ringing phone at the end. (Exactly the same as in the first ep of LFN and the entire series except her codename is said.)
Example 3: "I was looking for a bathroom." ("Charity"-Michael)
Example 4: After pleading with her captor that she didn't want her boss to find out and that she'd only been trying to find the ladies' room, Sydney states, "I like your tie." (Nikita to Michael in "Psychic Pilgrim" and Nikita to Helmut in "Man In The Middle").
Example 5: Gizmo that Ops used to change people's screens. (same gizmo Ops uses during briefings)
Example 6: Ballroom mission sequence. ("Charity")
Example 7: Entire training sequence(First ep. "Nikita")
Example 8: Sydney's love interest at the CIA(who just so happens to play a superior guide and helper who has this attraction to her) is French and named Michael?! Is nothing sacred?!
Example 9: Sydney's alias is Kate (like Kate Quinn on LFN) Jones?! Nikita, who happens to be the daughter of Mr. Jones?!
Example 10: Sydney was recuited in Dec. 1994..about the same time Nikita was recuited..
Y'all wanna know the real kicker? The preview of the next episode. In the first episode of LFN, titled "Nikita" she(Nikita) goes on a mission posed as a maid, pushing a cart into a hotel room where a target was hiding out. Hmm, from what I've seen of the preview, Sydney poses as a maid.. on a mission of some sort into a hotel room... and she's a freaking long-haired BLOND!!
To TPTB at Alias: Geez, get some creativity folks, but then again, it's obvious that's not your strong suit.

Comments from Various MBs
Original Message: You need to give the show a chance!! I loved LFN with all my heart....but don't be as rude at that!!
You're right, I did come off extremely rude and there's no excuse for it, I apologize. Alias does have a chance as far as tv goes, but the element that's credited to its success is stolen and that, I can't forgive. Eventually and hopefully, it'll have to develop on its own because it'll fail if it doesn't.
However, it still remains that the foundation for which it's laid upon, its roots, should at least be acknowledged. From all the rants and raves, its foundation -as far as its audience is concerned with- is buried 500 feet underground(^_^).
Perhaps this seed fallen from another tree will grow tall and become its own. Perhaps, it will shrivel up and die in its attempt to mold itself into its predecessor(although it's doubtful considering the general response and that it's on a network). We'll see what happens, but I'm still going to comment here[<--ABC MB] to share my more negative perspective which should make for some interesting arguments/discussions in the future. I will be watching and suffering through each episode so I can't be faulted with not knowing what the heck I'm talking about when I do.
If Alias goes too far, however, as in some Blood Cover with a kid with whose first name starts with an 'A', or some other-- I don't know how much I'll be able to stand. Of course, this is all my doing and am fully aware that it's my decision to be here and my choice to watch it.(cont.>>)

It's both a comfort and disturbance that LFN fans are here and it's ironic how some of us meet again together, although perhaps on different sides this time. At least some of you will understand where I'm coming from, especially if you were there since the beginning for the past 5/6 years through it all. Maybe we'll see eachother occasionally at Chris's.
Some might also argue that I'm bringing down everyone by being here and with my comments and that it isn't fair, but life's not fair. Just like ripping off another show and taking credit for it.
